Knitting and Random Craftiness

... And a pair of mittens

So I have finished both mittens (ok one needs eyes and details, but the mitten part if finished). Now I just need to figure out how to connect them. I am thinking I-cord, but am not really sure how to make it. Guess some googling is in order.

Well I have finished one of two mittens! Yes they are froggie mittens – I am going to knit a complete froggie winter set. Chanler is in love with the first mitten! I mistakenly told him to “quack” with his hand – like we do in some of our songs, and now he calls it a “quack froggie” pretty funny.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to get a good picture of the mitten – Chanler will not cooperate and it just looks funny without a hand in it.

I am going to make this hat probably for my mom since she is the only one who would actually appreciate it! I just need to figure out if there is a way to knit it instead of crochet . . . hrm

Moving Up in the World of Knitting

Well I tackled my first big project – the Froggie Hat – a.k.a. knitting something other than a scarf! Well ok once I finished the hat I made a matching scarf, but you have to knit what you know too.

I have been knitting since I was a young girl – Mostly Scarfs! They don’t really require any thought about what you are doing and the are low commitment items! So since I am all grown up etc I decided it was time to try something different (it also had to do with the fact that we have tons of scarfs running round our house) So on to hats!

I main impetus for this hat was that Chanler’s “girl” friend Sadie has a froggie hat and Chanler spent all of one play date trying to steal it. So I decided that I just HAD to make him one.

Here is the pattern for this hat. I added the embellishment myself.

I found that the 96 stich size will fit on my adult head just fine. I made one with 72 stiches which is a bit small for Chanler at 22 months, but I think it would fit a one year old. I also used size 8 needles (because that is all I had in DPN) so that may have been part of the problem.
